Agriculture & Sustainability

Agriculture will be a cornerstone in the efforts2014-09-16 Greenhouse & Field 2 to enable the ministry in Guatemala to sustain itself.  Impact Ministries is able to use the produce in the daily nutrition program in the schools and sell surplus produce to sustain the ministry. Christian Guatemalan leaders are training the next generation of men and women in sound agricultural practice and nutrition.

The Greenhouse was officially opened and dedicated to the Lord on September 30, 2013. Our most sincere gratitude to Casey Houweling from Houweling’s Tomatoes, KUBO Greenhouse Projects, and the many generous donors in the Impact Ministries family for making this possible.

Meeting The Challenge

The United Nations World Food Program has reported that the chronic under-nutrition rate for Guatemalan children under 5 is 49.8 percent, the highest in the region and fourth highest in the world. Their report included the following information:

  • Guatemala is one of the 36 countries which account for 90 percent of stunting in the world and is very evident in Tactic
  • Chronic under-nutrition in Indigenous areas is 69.5 percent
  • Despite living in a climate that is well-suited for growing a variety of vegetables and tropical fruits, most communities grow only corn and eat a diet of tortillas and beans

This is just the beginning! The irrigation system supporting this project was installed in 2014 and we now have adequate water for irrigation and the entire Chisac property!!

The Lord has been faithful, and our prayer is that the food we provide for the body will also provide the opportunity to feed the soul. May the Lord bless the harvest.Harvest 3Harvest 1

  1. I saw that Impact has the opportunity to acquire the property chisac II. What a blessing that will be to have more agricultural land as well as an orphanage! I am so excited to hear this news. Your letter stated the amount of $111,000 is needed to make that happen. Can you tell me where you are at in the amount of funds already raised?
