How Does Child Sponsorship Work?Impact Ministries is called of God to train up leaders for His kingdom and its primary focus is to do this through the avenue of Christian Day Schools. Not only do these schools provide an academic education approved by the government of Guatemala, the children are taught to love and follow the Lord. No child that desires to know God and to be discipled is turned away, even if the family is unable to contibute towards any of the costs. Sponsors have come alongside to provide the resources to make this possible.
Impact Ministries is working in Guatemala focusing on the Q'eqchí and Poqomchí people groups who live in the rural areas around Tactic. More than 80 percent of the people are illiterate and many only speak their native language. This greatly narrows their opportunities. Many of the people of Tactic are very, very poor. The average man earns a wage of 35 Quetzals ($5 Canadian) for an 8 hour day of heavy farm labour, dairy work or cutting and selling firewood. Fifty percent of the population in the country of Guatemala is 17 years old or younger. Most Guatemalan rural families have more than five children and approximately 40% of these children are living in homes with only one parent. When children come to one of our schools many have never had a pencil or crayon in their hand. Although in overall Guatemala there has been a revival that has brought more than 35% of the people into evangelical Christianity, many are still dominated by an oppressive religious darkness that has kept the people in fear, bondage and ignorance. Impact Ministries is committed to loving, serving and discipling the children of Tactic. The Impact Ministries Sponsorship Program is unique because each child is cared for by Impact Ministries staff on a daily basis. We are personally involved in each child’s life and know them and their family well. Our top priority is to help children to know the Lord Jesus and to become all that He intends for them to be.Your sponsorship of $34 per month provides several levels of care to a child. Our godly young teachers provide a role model and pastoral care as they present Jesus to the children and disciple them in their Christian walk. Our Schools provide a quality education for children who otherwise would not have this opportunity. In addition to education, we provide a daily spiritual focus through our morning devotional time, a nourishing breakfast, a daily vitamin, a new pair of shoes at Christmas, a birthday gift, medical care and special tutoring.
Sponsors are invited to write letters to their children. The children communicate with their sponsors three times each year. Reports from the children's teachers or children's program leaders are sent at the end of the year. Sponsored children either attend one of our six Christian Schools or they are involved in an afternoon children's program. The afternoon program includes tutoring, discipleship, shoes, birthday gift, meals, and medical care. The schools and programs are a safe and nurturing place for these children to grow and develop in God's tender love.
