Currently, the Impact Ministries Schools and Children’s Project serve over one thousand students in Tactic and surrounding area. Below, find a brief description of each of our programs. As of January 2009, more than 200 students attend this elementary Christian school. Students participate in a daily devotional where they worship the Lord and lift their voices in prayer for the healing of their homes, community and for their sponsors. They receive a full academic education and a warm, nutritious meal is served to them each day. The teachers consciously take time to love and pray for their students.
San Antonio is a mountain village about ten minutes west of Tactic. Impact Ministries has been serving the people in this village for seven years with worship services, children’s programs, food distribution, medical clinics, and women’s ministry. We are now in our fourth year of a steady afternoon project funded through our Sponsorship ProgramThe Children’s Program in San Antonio takes place three afternoons a week. It provides the children with a devotional time in which they are taught the Bible and how to love and serve God; they are helped with their school homework and are provided a nutritious snack. Once a week they are also joined by their parents for a worship service. The children are provided with medical care and supplied with necessary clothing and shoes. We are hoping to acquire the land to build a facility for this project.
Chicoy is a small village about a 20-minute drive southeast of Tactic. We currently have about 75 children from grades one to five enrolled in this Christian school that was opened in 2006. The children in this school are provided with a full academic program, spiritual training, a nutritious breakfast every morning, medical care, and a strong role model of loving teachers. Chicoy has many challenges, but with God’s help we are seeing lives changed.
Mocohán is nestled between the communities of Chicoy and Purulhá. This village is suffering in many ways and it has serious educational deficiencies. The town council provided Impact Ministries with a fairly large piece of land to build a Christian school. In January 2007 our school began with grades K-2 and this year over 125 children are enrolled in the K to 4 academic levels.
Purulhá is a town 25-minutes drive southeast of Tactic. There are not enough schools in this community to serve the many thousands of children. Classes began in 2007 in a building provided by the municipality of Purulhá free of charge. A new school building was built in 2007 on land given to Impact Ministries by the municipality. Over 100 students now attend grades 1-5. This school follows the model set forth in Chamché and Chicoy.
This is the new facility that opened on the other side of Tactic Township on January 2009 with over 100 students from grades one to five. It also follows the model of our Chamché and Chicoy Schools.
Our junior high school which shares the facility with the Chijacorral elementary school is blessed to include over 100 young men and women this year. This high school is approved by the Guatemalan government and offers a full academic education. We are thrilled to be able to help students to this level of schooling.
The Iglesia Rio de Vida began eight years ago in Les and Rita’s living room and has now grown to a wonderful congregation of 250 plus people. A full program of home cell groups, men’s outreach meetings, ladies’ fellowship, youth group, Sunday School, marriage classes, leadership development training and the regular Sunday and communion services have been established.
Our Bible School is in its second year and over a dozen students are enrolled in each grade. Many are faithfully advancing to their three year diploma and graduation.
